Bird and fruit cage netting is essential to ensure that your crops and plants are protected. Fruit cage netting comes in a range of different mesh sizes. The mesh sizes are directly related to the types of bird you are trying to deter. Smaller mesh sizes that are around 20mm will help to protect against blue tits and sparrows. On the other hand, larger mesh sizes may let these birds in, while keeping out pigeons and larger birds.
WM James fruit cages usually come with netting that has a different mesh size on the top than on the sides. This is because the top of the cage requires less protection. Fruit cage netting that has a larger mesh on the roof also allows plants to grow through the roof, therefore not restricting growth. This isn't always possible when a smaller mesh size is used on the top of the cage.
As well as normal fruit cage netting, we also have heavy duty netting. This is normally used on low fruit cages that are prone to pests with teeth! Our heavy-duty netting is made from plastic and is 80gsm (not 60gsm like some competitors). The 18mm mesh still allows pollinators to go about their work while keeping your crops safe. Pond netting is also available if you need to add extra safety to an existing water feature.
